Instruction style
I am very flexible with my instruction style and am open to adjusting
my lessons to suit a particular student’s preferences and goals.
A typical lesson will follow the PPP (Presentation/Practice/Production) format.
After 3 to 5 minutes of casual conversation about current events and life,
I will present the topic or language point for the lesson eliciting information
from the student to ascertain their current level of understanding.
The next step is usually two or more controlled practice exercises to check
and reenforce correct usage of the language point.
This may or may not involve a listening comprehension.
The production phase of the lesson involves personalising the language
to ask questions about the student's own life, ideas and experiences.
This often involves a role-play activity.
I aim for 50/50 teacher student talk time. During the lesson
I will be taking notes on difficulties and inaccuracies encountered to
give feedback and as potential language points for future lessons.

I will give some example sentences for them to repeat
(and have these written down to refer to.)
We will then make a dialogue as appropriate and
practice reading that before trying from memory.
Then substituting a few pieces of information.
Then we will take the same structure and target but apply a different set of
circumstances within the same context.
The student can feel comfortable talking freely for a short period of time with
the target structures and words they have just learned -
referring to their written notes if needed.
We will practice this with a time limit multiple times.
